— ABOUT QUIETUS DESK

Built around the idea that understanding precedes action

We started Quietus Desk because too many working adults in Malaysia handle important financial documents without ever having had the chance to properly read them.

OUR STORY

How Quietus Desk came to exist

Quietus Desk was founded in Kuala Lumpur with a clear and limited purpose: to offer working adults the time and structure to look carefully at their household finances without being sold anything in the process.

The name reflects the nature of the work. A quietus is a final settlement of accounts — a settling of things. A desk is simply the place where careful work happens, away from noise and distraction. Together, they describe what we try to offer each participant: a considered space in which to understand where things stand.

The practice grew from a recognition that most financial discomfort does not come from a shortage of information. It comes from documents that have never been read in full, from loan agreements signed under time pressure, from retirement accounts that have accumulated without any particular review. Many working adults in Malaysia have a mortgage, a hire-purchase agreement, an EPF account, a credit card — and have never sat down with anyone to understand the mechanics of any of them.

Our programmes do not replace financial planning or licensed advisory services. They sit alongside them, offering something different: the space to learn, ask questions, and leave with a clearer picture of your own situation.

We work one-to-one. We do not take commissions. We do not arrange transactions. We schedule sessions in the evenings, because our participants are working adults whose days are spoken for. We close each engagement with a written summary that belongs to the household, not to us.

HOW WE WORK

Our standards and approach

Strict confidentiality

Participant information is held in confidence. We do not share financial details or contact information with third parties. Session notes are retained only for programme continuity.

No commission, no bias

We do not receive payments from financial institutions, insurance providers, or any third party. Our only income is the programme fee paid by the participant.

Education, clearly defined

Quietus Desk provides financial education — not licensed financial planning, investment advisory, or legal advice. This distinction is clearly communicated before every programme begins.

Current and reviewed materials

All programme materials are reviewed regularly against current Malaysian financial legislation, BNM guidelines, and EPF circulars to ensure accuracy.

Clear terms before you begin

Every participant receives a written programme agreement before the first session. Scope, fee, rescheduling terms, and cancellation arrangements are stated clearly upfront.

Personal Data Protection Act compliance

We handle all personal data in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Our privacy practice is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.

Financial education for Malaysian working adults — what that means in practice

Household finance in Malaysia involves documents and institutions that have their own structure and language — hire-purchase agreements under the Hire-Purchase Act, home loan facilities governed by Bank Negara Malaysia guidelines, EPF membership under the Employees Provident Fund Act. Most working adults have signed at least some of these documents without a full reading.

Quietus Desk works through this material methodically. Our programmes are not rushed. They are paced to allow genuine understanding to develop, with sessions spaced apart to give participants time to reflect and return with questions.

We work with adults across the Klang Valley — office workers, civil servants, educators, healthcare professionals — who find themselves at a point in life where a clearer picture of their household position would help them make considered decisions. Not impulsive ones, and not uninformed ones.

The programmes are conducted in English. Sessions may draw on Bahasa Malaysia terminology where documents use it, particularly in hire-purchase and EPF contexts.
